As a result of having shorter limbs, it is essential that swimmers with dwarfism practice superior technique when they swim to prevent early fatigue and maintain a successful speed. After speaking with Abbey and Adin’s swim coach, Natalie, she noted that both swimmers struggled with the “catch” in their backstroke and were not utilizing the surface area of their forearm. This is essential as the “catch” is a key component to propelling the swimmer through the water. On top of this, swim coach Natalie also mentioned that Abbey and Adin struggled with body awareness. Therefore, by bringing the paddle to the forearm, the CATCH paddle would work to improve their technique through mind muscles connection while the increased surfaced area would propel them through the water.
